Hi everyone, I'd like to get a new cell phone with accessible speech software like MobileSpeak or Talks. My questions are: 1. Do I have to have a smart phone per se, to receive internet/email? 2. Are there any T-mobile phones that are internetaccessible, and will work with Mobile Spreak or talks? 3. Should I buy the software a new cell phone? Or, should I buy the phone first? 5. are these software programs fairly easy to use or install? I'm really confused. Any pointers would be greatly apreciated. OH yeah, I use t-mobile, has anyone had good luck using an accessible software/phone package with this network?

Hmmm! This will be rather long winded and somewhat complicated, not to mention confusing for some to read, but I can answer all these questions. 1. Yes, you will need a smart phon in order to run Talks or Mobilespeak. 2. The phone has to be something fast and reliable, like some of the Nokia models, especially the N series, for you to be able to make full, effective use of T-mobile's web 'n walk and internet Email facilities. I'm with both T-mobile and Vodafone and I mostly, communicate with friends and others via the internet, so I needed something which was fairly fast, fairly reliable, not to mention, stable, soI use a Nokia N96, Symbian Series 60, version 3.1, running the latest Nuance Talks and Zooms 4.10.3, not that I need the magnification and zoom features it has to offer, owing to the fact I'm legally/totally blind. I'd check out the Nuance website wherever you're based for more info on other platforms, series and generations of phones which support screenreading software if you find that Nokia N series phones aren't for you, but I'd totally reccommend the Symbian series 60 phones since quite a few of the apps now are compatible with Talks. For example, I use Iscoot for Skype, Shape-services IM Plus all-in-one Messenger, version 7.14, Tweets60 and the Facebook application with hardly any problems what so ever, other than the fact that Web 'n walk hates IM Plus, lol. The N96 for me, is like having a second mini laptop or palmtop at your disposal. It's brilliant. You can even log on to practically any wireless broadband networks with its built-in wifi facilities.

Hi, thanks for the good post, I'll check out an N. series phone. I have heard that htese are great phones. Now, do I need to buy the software separately, or if I set up a t-mobile account, will they be alble to install it for me? If you don't want to answer this, it's okay, but can you tell me about how much talks is? I'm wanting a sort of estimate as to how much a phone plus software package will cost. Thanks again. I've heard that ATandT is pretty blind friendly, but I like t-mobile, and I'm thinking it might be a bit cheaper than t-mobile. But I'm not totally sure on that, so any other info would be great.

I was just reading about this today. There are three kinds of speach things you can get on your phone. Each one works with its own set of cells. The phone company usally downloads it on to your phone. The I phone 3Gigs has speach already on it. So do some of the others.I mean full out speach. I know that the phone wear you flip it up and it's a phone or flip it to the side its a keyboard has full out speach. I will try to find the sight I came across that explanes some of it all. Its hard to google it because you get a load of bull snot about stuff you don't even care to read.

if you are going with Tmobile here in the states you have 2 choices of types of phones. Most any nokia phone or most any windows mobile phone that is GSM Quad band. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of nokia phones that are being carried by t mobile in the states at the moment, so you would have to get an unlocked nokia phone (especially if you want a smart phone) which means paying the full retail price of usually a couple hundred dollars for one. E series nokia phones like the e63, e71 and e72 if you want a qwerty keyboard, or n series like the n82, n86, n95, and n96 if you don't mind not having the qwerty keyboard. If you would like to use something like KNFB reader you will definately have to go with a nokia phone the n82 and n86 are your two best bets for that. Another advantage to nokia phones is GPS applications .. Way finder can be had for about $280 where has the windows mobile accessible gps app is about $845. Also tmobile has a deal where you can get unlimited everything for $80 if you bring an unlocked phone with you and no contract. As for windows mobile, T mobile has a few windows mobile smart phones and you can go to the t mobile store and check them out if thats the way you want to go. Also windows mobile phones may work on t mobiles 3G data network but you may want to check to see if there is even t mobile 3G coverage in your area. Most nokia's will not work on t mobiles 3G network (unless its a nokia you get from them and at the moment all the tmobile nokia phones i believe are the express music series, and no smart phones) But you will still be able to access the data over edge on both windows mobile and nokia phones, a little slower but this is still how most on t mobile use the web on their phones. Talks and or mobile speak for symbian (if you choose nokia) is $295, and Mobile Speak for windows mobile is also $295, so the screen reader/screen magnifier is gonna cost you the same no matter which you go with. and there are 30 day trials for all so you can try before you buy. At&T does have a deal where you can get mobile speak for $89 if you choose from a few windows mobile or nokia phones that they offer that deal with. Hope this helps.
